Matt Pectol is a local artist who lives in St. George, Utah. He finds inspiration in the stunning landscape of the local and surrounding areas. His work is mainly influenced by the post-Impressionist movement.
"I was born in the mountains of Arizona but moved to Southern Utah when I was ten years old. As a young man, I enjoyed exploring the outdoors, hiking, and going on adventures. I was always creating and loved to draw and paint even from a young age. I knew since high school that my greatest aspiration was to be a professional artist and have spent years working to attain this goal.
I have achieved this goal and work full-time as a professional artist. Currently, I paint in my studio in Kayenta, Utah. I have been teaching oil painting for two years at MakeSpace Kayenta and have loved every moment of it."
Matt primarily works with oil paint but also enjoys using pastels and watercolors. He loves the freedom of creating art and never knows how one of his pieces will turn out. Currently, he has been inspired by family trips to National Parks in Utah, Nevada, and California. His goal is to capture the essence of the land and evoke a feeling from the viewer. Matt achieves this by creating paintings with bold brush strokes, bright colors, and dramatic compositions.
